Prince William County License
Dogs
All dogs four months of age and older must be licensed. Dog licenses arerenewed annually and can be purchased beginning in November. The duedate for license renewals is January 31 of each year (see the Prince William Code Chapter 4, Article IV).
Any dog not having a license tag after January 31 will be in violation of County Code and the owner subject to a fine.
Dog owners moving into the County must comply with the license requirements and register their dogs at the time of the move.
How To Obtain A License
The fee is $10 per dog license.
To purchase a license, complete a Dog License Application Form and return it with a current rabies vaccination certificate. A licensewill only be issued with proof of a current rabies vaccination.
Dog licenses can be purchased at the Animal Shelter or any Taxpayer Services Office location

Cats
All cats four months of age and older must have a current rabies vaccination (see the Prince William Code Chapter 4, Article V). Cats are not required to be licensed.

Fauquier County License
One year dog tag not spayed/neutered - $10.00
One year dog tag spayed/neutered - $ 5.00
Three year dog tag not spayed/neutered - $30.00
Three year dog tag spayed/neutered - $12.00
Citizens attempting to purchase a three (3) year dog tag with a rabies expiration of less than 24 months will be required to purchase a one year tag.
To qualify for a three (3) year dog tag,you must have a minimum of 24 months remaining on your rabies certificate.
Up to 10 dog kennel - $30.00
11-20 dog kennel - $50.00
21-30 dog kennel - $100.00
31-40 dog kennel - $150.00
41-50 or more dog kennel - $200.00
What do I need to get a dog license?
You must present a certificate of vaccination, properly executed and signed by the licensed veterinarian performing the vaccination, specifying the date of the vaccination, the date required for revaccination, a brief description of the dog and the name and address of the animal's owner.
Can I request a dog license through the mail?
Yes. Send a copy of the current rabies certificate and a check forthe license requested. Be sure to include your address so we can send your receipt and tag(s).

What if I want to purchase a dog kennel tag?
In order to purchase a kennel tag, present a letter from Fauquier County Zoning Division that determines the kennel is in compliance with County Zoning Ordinances.
This letter will indicate the number of dogs permitted on the property - a kennel tag can only be sold for the number of dogs listed.
Contact the Zoning office to obtain a letter stating ordinance compliance.
