Dr Heather Trout grew up in Loudoun and Fauquier counties and worked on area horse farms as a kid. She received her bachelor's degree in Biology at the University of Virginia in 1998 as a Jefferson Scholar and then spent two years working in a cancer research lab. She then taught high school science (mostly Biology and Chemistry) for five years in the Charlottesville area before heading off to pursue her lifelong dream of going to vet school. She earned her Doctorate at Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine in 2009 and briefly practiced equine medicine before switching to small animal practice. She joined New Baltimore Animal Hospital in 2014 after practicing in the Fredericksburg/Stafford area for five years. Dr. Trout loves music and played semi-professionally in a traditional Irish band for several years prior to going to vet school. She enjoys hiking, reading, cooking and shooting. She lives in Sumerduck with her long-suffering spouse, two old dogs of uncertain parentage and a very spoiled cat.
